To enhance the circulation of library books and ensure fair access to library resources for all patrons, National Tsing Hua University Library has implemented a Recall Policy starting from August 1, 2003.
In line with the implementation of the Recall Policy, and to ensure that each patron understands their rights and responsibilities regarding borrowing library materials—as well as the accuracy of their personal information in the library system—all patrons must complete the "The Statement of Patron's Privileges" before borrowing books for the first time.
Implementation Details
- Applicable Patrons:
All patrons with reservation privileges. - Implementation Period:
The Recall Policy is in effect during both the semester and winter/summer breaks. - Details about the Recall Policy:
- If the book a patron needs is currently checked out, the patron may place a reservation through the library Catalog.
- The system will determine the action based on the original due date of the current borrower:
- If the reservation is made more than 14 days before the current due date, the system will shorten the loan period at midnight the following day. An email titled "Due Date Change Notice" will be sent to the current borrower, who must return the book within 14 days of the notice.
- If the reservation is made 14 days or fewer before the current due date, the system will not change the loan period. However, the current borrower will still receive a "Due Notice" five days before the due date, and a "Due Today Notice" on the day of the due date. The borrower must return the book by the original due date.
- Once the book is returned, the system will automatically generate a "Hold Pick-up Notice" and send it to the reserving patron. This notice will be sent again at midnight the next day. The reserving patron must check out the book within three days of the notification (excluding days the library is closed).
- If a book has multiple reservation requests, each subsequent borrower will only be allowed a 14-day loan period.
- If the original borrower fails to return the book on time, it will be handled according to Article 11 of the "National Tsing Hua University Library Rules for Circulation Services".
- During winter and summer breaks, if faculty or students are unable to return recalled library materials on time due to special circumstances, they should notify the library to request an extension of the loan period.
