Public Computer

The library provides computers at the Information Retrieval Area and Computer Labs for public use, as well as free wireless network services within the library, aiming to offer patrons a wide variety of information experience. To ensure information security for using public computers, please back up your personal files before accessing it on the public computer with your own USB drive.

While using the public computer or the internet, one must abide by the rule of "National Tsing Hua University Library Public Computer and Internet Usage Regulations". As for the rules not mentioned in this regulation, the library will refer to the Ministry of Education's "Ministry of Education Campus Internet Usage Regulations" and "National Tsing Hua University Network Usage Policy".

Information Retrieval Area Computer Facilities

The Main Library provides 40 computers for library catalog and online resource searches. The 1st floor has 15 computers, while the 2nd to the 6th floors each has 5 computers.

Who can use them?

  1. NTHU or UST (University System of Taiwan) faculty and students: Please use your ID Cards to access public computers.
  2. Alumni with an Alumni Library Card or Lifetime Alumni Card, those with an Immediate Family.
  3. Visitors: Please swap a valid ID card (e.g. National ID card) for a temporary card at the front desk to access public computers.

Services

There are two kinds of public computers on each floor (with or without a card sensor)

  1. Computers with card sensors: Can access the internet and other resources. Some computers give priority to the databases as follows : WebCSD(F108)、TEJ PC version(F109, while the online version can be accessed by all computers.)、Thesaurus Linguae Graecae(TLG) (F110、F111)、月旦法學(F112、F113). An A3 scanner supported by public computers can be found on each floor. Please refer to the Intellectual Property Rights when using the scanner. F401 public computer is reserved for patrons with disabilities, so do make sure to give them priority.
  2. Computers with no card sensors: Only limited to the search of the four libraries catalogues of UST or to reserve library spaces.
  3. Starting from 103/8/26, in order to effectively make use of public computer resources, the Main Library's public computers all require an ID card for usage. A patron can only access a computer for up to two hours. There will be a 10-minute reminder before time is up. If computer use is still needed, please make sure to back up your files and move to another computer. If NTHU patrons need longer usage time, feel free to make use of Computer Lab l Area on the second floor.

Services

There are 45 computers (two Apple iMacs) with on-campus licensed software available to eligible users. Here, users can search for electronic resources or to collaborate with peers for work.

Who can use them?

  1. NTHU Faculty, students, retired faculty and alumni with the right to use library : Please book in advance, and use a valid school ID card to access public computers.
  2. New graduate students without student ID cards : Please first go to the front desk on the first floor to borrow Internet Access Card. Book with your card before accessing public computers.

Notices

  • For patrons holding valid ID cards, online reservations within a 14-day time period are available; or directly refer to the KIOSK machine for current vacancy. For others, please refer to the KIOSK for a spot upon arrival.
  • The Computer Lab I C207~C236 has a total of 30 computers for reservations in advance. C237~C248 are seats open for reservation on the spot.
  • The reservation should be activated with the valid ID card. If the seat is no longer in need, please cancel the reservation 30 minutes before the reserved time. If the reserved seats are not activated with 15 minutes, the system would cancel the reservation and release the seats for other people. There will be a point deduction for the user who made the reservation.
  • During the reserved time, if patrons leave their seats for more than 10 minutes, the system would cancel the reservation and release the seats for other people.

Computer Lab II

Facilities

Computer Lab II on the second floor of the Main Library provides a total of 33 public computers and a Broadcasting System. This service is mainly for those who need to use the library for educational purposes or for NTHU teachers to be used as a classroom.

Notices

  • The computer room is provided for educational purposes and for NTHU teachers to use as a classroom only. It will be reserved as a whole.
  • Computers inside Computer Lab II are for attendees of the lecture, and can be powered without valid IDs.
