National Tsing Hua University Regulations for the Embargo of Thesis/Dissertation

Article 1

National Tsing Hua University (hereinafter referred to as "the University") formulates these Regulations for governing the embargo of master's and doctoral theses and dissertations (hereinafter referred to as "theses/dissertations") in accordance with Article 14 of the National Tsing Hua University Master's Degree Exam Statutes and Article 14 of the National Tsing Hua University Doctoral Degree Exam Statutes.

Article 2

Where a thesis/dissertation involves confidential information, patent matters, or is otherwise restricted from disclosure by law, the student (author of the thesis/dissertation) shall apply for an embargo thereof.

Article 3

The embargo period shall be reasonable, and each application shall not exceed five years. The review procedures and required documents are as follows:

1. For students
   Students shall, at the time of the degree exam, submit the Application for Embargo of Thesis/Dissertation (hereinafter referred to as the “Embargo Application Form”), along with supporting documents for review. The application must be reviewed and confirmed by the thesis/dissertation exam committee as meeting the conditions for embargo specified in the preceding Article, and approved by the head of the student's department or institute, before the thesis/dissertation may be embargoed.
2. For students who have uploaded the electronic thesis/dissertation to the University's thesis database and completed the review process, and alumni:
   Applications for modification shall be processed in accordance with the National Tsing Hua University Guidelines for Theses/Dissertations Modification. Applicants shall submit the Application for Thesis/Dissertation Modification, the Embargo Application Form, and supporting documents for review. The modification to the embargo period shall be approved by all original members of the thesis/dissertation exam committee, or by a relevant departmental or institute-level meeting of the applicant's former department/institute.

Article 4

These regulations shall be enforced upon approval by the Academic Affairs Meeting and subsequent confirmation by the Administrative Council.
