Items, and Cultural Relics Donation Guidelines

  • The Following Phrases are Defined as Such:
    • Items:books, journals, newspapers, audiovisual materials, electronic media, and any other published material and internet resources.
    • Cultural Relics:journals, letters, pictures, manuscripts, sculptures, or any other item that has historical, academic, aesthetic value or any other value worth collecting, excluding the books and information mentioned above.
    • Donated:the books and relics given to the library by a donator.
  • The following donations are not added to the library collection:
    • Violates the Copyright Law, is obtained through unlawful means, or is unlawfully possessed.
    • Content not worth collecting.
    • Donator's requests unable to be met by the Library.
    • Damaged beyond use.
    • The Library already has a copy/copies.
    • Does not meet the Library Collection Development Policy.
    When necessary, the Library will invite related scholars and experts for the identification of valuable books, journals, and cultural relics.
    If there is any dispute regarding the donations, the Library curator may gather the "Library Collection Planning" team to resolve the issue.
  • Both the Library and the donator may draw up a contract to state the ownership, copyrights, and property rights attached to the donation.
  • The preserving, displaying, transferring, and any other way of dealing with the donated items will adhere to the regulations of the Library.
  • Unless otherwise stated in a contract, rooms or display stands will not be especially opened for donated items.
  • The Library's thanks to the donators:
    • According to the wishes of the donator, the library will provide a letter of acknowledgement and include the donator's name on the item donated.
    • If more than 500 books are donated in one single donation, the Library will gift the donator with a one-year library membership.
    • Donations of valuable books or cultural relics will go through a discussion during the Library's council report meeting to be individually handled.
