蔣亨進教授憶述
2011年4月，蔣亨進教授受陳力俊校長委託，代表校方徵求、收集近代圍棋大師的墨寶與棋譜，並獲得圍棋國手林海峰等人大力協助。林國手不僅提供自己的墨寶及棋譜，還幫忙求得韓國圍棋大師曹薰鉉的墨寶及棋譜。至於吳清源大師墨寶及棋譜的求取過程，則比較曲折，林國手是非常謙虛的人，對吳大師又非常尊敬，他對於自己與恩師「同園並列」，感到猶豫，所以遲遲不敢開口向恩師求取墨寶及棋譜。其時，吳大師已接近百齡，耳朵近乎完全失聰，溝通上有其困難，能與其良好溝通者，只有他的女兒吳佳澄女士，林國手掌握吳女士從外地來東京探望老父之機會，請她幫忙說明，終獲吳大師首肯，提供其墨寶及棋譜。
至於木谷實大師，其時早已作古，林國手請其外孫女小林泉美女士，找出了木谷大師墨寶的遺作並代為選定其自選棋譜。小林泉美女士也是職業棋士，她的夫婿張栩先生是林國手的首徒，也是沈校長的義子。吳清源及木谷實兩位宗師及其門徒，主宰日本棋壇半個世紀以上，他們之間是相爭又相惜的關係，如今吳大師的徒孫與木谷大師的外孫女相結合，可謂為他們這種相爭又相惜的關係，畫下了完美的句點。另一方面，海峽兩岸的圍棋界一直有良好的互動，經由海峰棋院及台灣圍棋教育推廣協會的協助，取得了大陸圍棋大師陳祖德、聶衛平的墨寶及棋譜。
整個收集的工作約近半年完成，2011年10月，蔣教授向陳力俊校長報告，收集工作已完成，陳校長當即決定啟動奕園擴建的實體建造工程。
Professor Heng-ching Chiang
In April 2011 NTHU president Lih-juann Chen entrusted Professor Heng-ching Chiang with the task of collecting various types of memorabilia relating to past Go masters, including their calligraphy and strategy manuals. Chiang was assisted by Go master Hai-feng Lin, who provided his own calligraphy and match records, and was also instrumental in arranging for the same to be provided by South Korean Go master Hun-hyun Cho and Japanese Go legend Seigen Go.
Lin also arranged for memorabilia relating to the deceased Japanese Go master Minoru Kitani to be provided by Kitani’s granddaughter, also a professional Go player. Seigen Go, Minoru Kitani, and their disciples have dominated the Japanese Go scene for more than half a century, in a spirit of friendly competition. With assistance provided by the Haifong Weiqi Academy and the Taiwan Weiqi Education & Development Association, Chiang has also collected memorabilia from mainland China Go masters Zu-de Chen and Wei-ping Nie.
In October 2011 Chiang had completed his task, and President Chen immediately set about making arrangements for constructing the Go Garden.
