Nanda Branch was established in September 1946 and underwent several organizational changes alongside the university's institutional transitions. Originating from the Provincial Hsinchu Teachers College, it became the National Hsinchu University of Education Library in August 2005 when the school was restructured into National Hsinchu University of Education. On November 1, 2016, following the merger with National Tsing Hua University, it was renamed the Nanda Branch of National Tsing Hua University.

Following the merger, the university planned to consolidate teaching and research services at the Main Campus. With the completion of the new College of Education building, the college relocated to the Main Campus during the summer of 2025, and the Library adjusted its organizational structure accordingly. However, as faculty and students of the College of Arts remain on the Nanda Campus, there continues to be a demand for library reading spaces and services. To support their teaching and research needs, the NTHU Library has maintained Nanda Branch as a service point, providing Chinese and Western art-themed books as well as music scores.

Nanda Branch's original collection specialized in education, fine arts, and children's picture books. In August 2025, except for the art-themed books and music scores, all other collections were relocated to the Main Library as well as the high-density storage facilities in General Building II and III. Additionally, Nanda Branch's "Refreshing Corner" collection of over 1,500 volumes was moved to the NTHU Mini-Library on the 4th floor of the Main Library, with the Humanities and Social Sciences Branch continuing to maintain and expand related subject collections.

In 2026, to promote resource sharing, mutual benefit, and regional cultural development in partnership with the Hsinchu City Government, Nanda Branch will transition into the Hsinchu City Library Nanda Branch. Nanda Branch will operate until Friday, July 31, 2026, and will be closed starting Saturday, August 1 for relocation. The Hsinchu City Library Nanda Branch is scheduled to open in early November; NTHU faculty and students will be able to access its open reading spaces directly without prior application.

To continuously support the library service needs of College of Arts faculty, students, and campus residents on the Nanda Campus, a Temporary Library Service Point—supported by the university administration—will be established on the 1st floor of the Nanda Campus Administration Building starting Monday, August 17. It will offer general inquiry assistance, intra-library loans, University System of Taiwan (UST) library services, and Interlibrary Loan (ILL) pickups. In line with the university’s timeline, this temporary service point is scheduled to operate until the summer of 2027 to coincide with the relocation schedule of the College of Arts.
