Long-Term Guidelines

  • Aim
    To fully utilize staff and non-NTHU personnel resources for various services, the National Tsing Hua University (hereinafter referred to as the "Library") provides opportunities in various taskforces for volunteers to dedicate their wisdom and experience. To manage the volunteers, the National Tsing Hua Library has revised this set of guidelines.
  • Eligibility
    Applicants have to be above 15 years of age, dedicated and passionate. Great moral integrity and passion for the library are also needed. They must abide by the related library rules.
    Applicants should also have the needed educational background and be willing to complete assigned tasks.
  • Volunteer Types and Service Time
    1. General Purpose Volunteers: Service time will be the same as the library open times. Volunteers should do volunteer work for at least three hours a week.
    2. Special Operation Volunteers
      • Literature and history Volunteers: Volunteers should help with services related to the Special Collections Division. Volunteers should work for at least three hours a week.
      • Tour Guide Volunteers: Tour guide volunteers should complete tasks assigned by the library and take at least twenty tours a year. If tour guide volunteer is a student of National Tsing Hua University, then volunteer should take at least twelve tours a year.
  • Recruitment
    For general purpose volunteers, the library will hold recruitment meetings and announce service contents. For special operation volunteers, the library will hold recruitment meetings whenever necessary.
    Applicants who are accepted after interview will have to complete basic education training and a six-hour pre-volunteer seminar. Applicants who are deemed qualified by their supervising unit will be given a volunteer ID and formally enter the volunteer workforce.
  • Rights and Obligations
    1. Rights
      • Volunteers will be given a volunteer ID, which has the same rights as the NTHU Library Members.
      • Volunteers can take part in library competitions, training courses and welfare activities.
      • The library can provide free parking for the volunteers who need parking.
    2. Obligations
      • Volunteers work without pay and should obey the related rules while being employed by the library.
      • Volunteers should wear their volunteer ID during service and should check in and out on time. Volunteers should also fill out the work records.
      • If volunteer is unable to serve at the library, they should report for absence to their supervising unit beforehand.
  • Assessment
    Volunteers are assessed by their supervising unit and they are assessed by their attendance, work quality, and service attitude.
    If volunteer violates related rules or damages library reputation during service, the library reserves the right to revoke volunteer qualification and ID card. The library can also cancel all privileges and if complications are severe, report to the associated units.
    If volunteer fails to check in without previous notice for more than three times in four months, fails to complete tasks assigned by the library or fails to serve required hours, the library reserves the right to revoke volunteer qualification and ID card, and cancel all privileges.
  • Reward
    The library can reward volunteers through the following ways according to the contributions of the volunteer.
    1. Gift certificates of Appreciation
    2. Report to supervising units for rewards according to related regulations
  • Legal Responsibility
    If volunteer illegally violates the rights of others either intentionally or unintentionally that results in the library being the one responsible for compensation, the library can legally ask volunteer for compensation.
