Entering the Library:

  • All patrons must enter the library by scanning their Library cards.
  • If you lose your Library Card, please declare the lost immediately to the Library as well as apply for a reissue from the original issuing authority. Users will be liable to pay before declaring the lost of card if any loss occurs to the Library from unauthorized use of the card. Do not lend your Library card to another user nor use another user's card, or both parties will be deprived of library privileges and banned from entering the Library for 30 days.
  • If Library card illegally used is issued from the Library and is the second time of violation, it will be confiscated immediately, and the original cardholder cannot apply for reissue from the Library.
  • Patrons should leave the library only through designated exit gates. If the alarm goes off upon exiting, patrons will be checked by staff members to ensure no items are carried out of the library without proper procedure.

Identity of patrons:

  • NTHU faculty, staff and students must use their ID cards to enter the Library.
  • Dependents:
    The spouse and immediate family members aged above 6 of NTHU faculty and staff can enter with the Immediate Family Member Library Card issued by the Library.
    NTHU faculty, staff and students who have child care needs for study purposes can apply for children under the age of 6 to enter the library at the entrance counter and accompany them throughout the whole process.
  • Alumni with a Lifetime Membership Card or Alumni Library Card may enter the library.
  • Faculty and students of UST (University System of Taiwan) can show their Employee or Student ID Card to enter the Library.
  • Visitors over the age of 18 can swap for a temporary library card with their National ID card. The issue of temporary library cards is limited to 200 per day at Main Library and 50 at Nanda Branch. Temporary library cards must be returned on the day of use, or a fine of 10 NTD per day will be issued. A handling fee of 200 NTD will be charged for a lost or damaged temporary card.
  • Due to limited study space during exam periods, the issue of temporary library cards is limited to 30 per day at Main Library and 10 per day at Nanda Branch, where each cardholder is only allowed a 2-hour stay.
  • During winter and summer vacations, visitors above 15 and under 18 can swap their National ID card for a temporary library card to enter the Main Library. However, due to limited space, the issue of temporary library cards is limited to 30 per day.
  • Visitors above 16 can apply for NTHU Library Membership Card with an annual fee of 2000 NTD. The card will be valid for a year.

Library Rules and Regulations

  • Food and Beverage Policy
    • Food and alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited in all areas of Library.
    • Non-alcoholic beverages are allowed to be consumed within the library. Please ensure that the beverages are stored in containers compliant with regulations and do not affect the cleanliness of the environment. In case of any spills or accidental damage, individuals are responsible for cleaning up or compensating for any resulting damages.
    • Containers permitted for bringing beverages into the library include those with tight-fitting lids and spill-proof features, such as spill-proof cups, thermoses, bottles, etc., that can be securely closed to prevent any leakage.
    • Prohibited containers for bringing and using beverages include open cups, and any plastic cups, paper cups, styrofoam cups with or without lids or seals.
  • Smoking, making noise, lying down sleeping, taking off shoes, or any other inappropriate behavior which may disturb others are not allowed in the Library. Upon dissuasion failed, the Library reserves the right to ask the patron to leave the library.
  • Computers in the Library can only be used for database research. Please refer to Public Computer and Internet Usage Regulations.
  • Use of library collections is subject to the Intellectual Property Rights Laws. Patrons will be held responsible for any unauthorized use.
  • It is not allowed to leave behind personal items to reserve seats. Library staff will confiscate personal items left unattended on seats for over 30 minutes.
