NationalTsingHuaUniversity was reestablished in Taiwan in 1956. In 1957 the Nuclear Science Library was established on the east side of what was formerly an office building. After adding the Mathematics Resource Room in 1963, the Japanese Resource Room was also finished one year later in 1964. In December of 1966 the three-story Main Library was built to meet the school’s teaching and research needs. With the establishment of the College of Engineering and the expansion of the Colleges of Science and Nuclear Science, a wide range of research and reference materials were acquired. The original building space was deemed inadequate and the Main Library was relocated to General Building II in 1985. In 1989 the AV Center was added and the three branches (Mathematics, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Physics)were established in the three years from 1990 to 1992.

The Libraries are dispersed around the campus. The Main Library is a depository Library of the research reports of the Atomic Energy Council and government publications.
The number of items in the collection is over 1.6 million, including books, journals, microfilms, audio-visual and multimedia resources on basic sciences, applied sciences, life sciences, humanities and social sciences.
